The pattern itself is a stylized repeating fan motif of Kimberichnus, a trace fossil made by the grazing activities of Kimberella, an ancient mollusk that lived during the Ediacaran. And Kimberella is on there too, sitting peacefully at the bottom of the pattern. I like to think of this pattern as the cutest little OmNomNoms.
